Jp 401 Building Your Foundation for Long-Term Success *
John Passaro
Every other Friday afternoon 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm $285 per month
* Please Note: this program is not for everyone ... consider whether you
have the time to participate effectively. We will meet one-on-one every other
week for most of the afternoon, and in the intervening time you
will have anywhere from 20 - 35 hours per week in work and assignments:
the mentorship is based on the premise that the formula for success
in the fine arts (and fine arts training) is a lot like other forms of
create success -- one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration,
to quote the inventor Thomas Edison. The mentorship requires a
six-month commitment.
From the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century, many artists were trained in traditional apprecticeships. The focus of these apprecticeships was on building skills and on the fundamentals not always found in today's art schools and classes. In our program we work on the fundamentals by strengthening your weaknesses and building on your strengths.
... Most of all, the mentorship program builds the foundation you need to meet YOUR goals, to foster YOUR enjoyment and fulfillment in a life in art.
We will be working to address the essential skills an artist needs to realize his or her vision, especially the skills and understanding represented by these six competencies:
1. the ability to draw accurately from life
2. the ability to paint from life outdoors and in the studio
3. mastery of the elements of the visual language: line, shapes, values relationships, composition of shapes, color, texture, edges
4. a good working knowledge of art history and the lives of the artists
5. a thorough knowledge of your materials and techniques
6. a solid business plan for your long-term success as a self-supporting artist
